"mornings on 2" starts now. good morning. i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. another young child is hit and killed on a busy novato street. it happened yesterday on novato boulevard and san marin drive. police say the girl, who was new to the area, was home when it happened. christien kafton has more. >> reporter: we're on the stretch of road where the fatal accident happened. first, now that the sun is up

you can, you can see the trail where the middle schooler was hit. candles and teddy bears have been left here as a somber memorial. she was hit by a white suv. emergency crews rushed to the scene. the girl was taken by ambulance to novato hospital, then airlifted, where she was pronounced dead. authorities say the driver who hit the car stopped at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. >> it changes to 45 and then people really hit the gas coming out this way. >> reporter: i'm taking a live look at the memorial.

you can see people have dropped off teddy bears an memorials and other remembrances. as you heard the neighbor talk about it a moment ago, there are definitely concerns. this scene is about two miles agray another deadly -- away from another deadly accident. they want drivers to be cautious in this area, especially during school hours. an albany schoolteacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a former student is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon. the 20-year-old taught school and coached. he's being held on $100,000 bail on committing lewd acts on

a child under the age of 14. the continuing coverage of the occupy protest in san francisco, demonstrators vow they are gonna reoccupy a camp. claudine wong is live and police have been guarding that area for hours. >> reporter: that's right, dave. we're in front of the federal reserve building that's right here. if you take a look down the street, you can see it is clear. now when we have our barricades, you can see those lining the entire front of the federal reserve building. closer to the door, you have federal officers making sure workers only go in and out of here. and the protesters were down here earlier and and the police have been out here and down the street as well.

let me show you video from last night when the -- things got a little heated overnight. this is what happened as five or so protesters were out here. things were kind of calm but then they joined one a group of 40 protesters. police say they started throwing some bottles at them so they called in reinforcement. police in riot gear came. and it's not clear if there were any arrests. we've been talking to people out here this morning. one person said wic -- he would like to see the camp come back. >> you will have differences of opinion but hopefully it won't be too serious. >> reporter: but if you came here and you saw the tents go back, you would be happy to see them? >> yeah, i would. >> reporter: that won't happen, if police can happen.

nightclub said he will fight city club night managers. he is the owner of a lounge. on october 25th, he's supposed to meet with the city planning commission to try to stop the force of a conditional use permit. it's the second time in a year the permit has been imposed on that location. it sets an earlier start time and he said the city is trying to force him to shut down and he says the city is not friendly to small business owners. today's work on the b.a.r.t. extension is being done at kato and warren avenue and fremont. the project is expected to enhance the area on widening mission boulevard. crews will be installing b.a.r.t. bridges and warren avenue. work is scheduled to be

new this morning, kenyan troops staged a surprise predawn attack on a rebel group in somalia. the kenyon military says they've taken control of the last remaining port city held by the islamist militant group,

al shabab. but they say they are not giving up. control over the coastline is seen as crucial for kenyan's kick growth. alison burns has information on the growing controversy about why u.s. diplomats were not better protected on the attack in libya. >> reporter: u.s. investigators say they are learning more and more every day about who was behind the attacks in libya. "the washington post" clothes intelligence officials who say the attack involved a small number of militants with ties to al qaeda.

officials say some has been recaptured. security forces also reportedly dismantled three car bombs. government troops have remained control. the judge in the colorado shooting rampage case will release new court documents today. reportedly we're gonna find out more about the suspect, james holmes, and the shooting in july that killed and injured people. some court motions and other matters will remain sealed. he's accused of murder, attempted murder, weapons, violations an other chalks. an actor who died in -- and other charges. police are saying that johnny lewis killed his 18-year- old land lady on wednesday. lewis is best known for the tv series "sons of anarchy."

it was a happy reunion between the dog and its owners. the dog is veronica. after essaying through aen -- through an open gate, veronica got stuck in that 18-inch culvert running near a road -- on a road near her family's home. it was hard for firefighters to rescue the dog. they had to dig through dirt and move boulders out before  they cut part of the pipe and set her free. 7:23. levi strauss is moving out of its flagship store to a new location in san francisco. they will leave union square and move to 815 market street. this is according to the "san francisco business times." the space is smaller. but the south of market area is becoming more of destination for international and local shoppers. you might want to head out

like that. a deal has been reached to reduce the number of suspensions among african- american students. now, it's a five-year plan. it will at first focus on about half of the schools in the oakland district. officials say african-americans are making up about 32% of the school district's enrollment. but an investigation that was launched this spring showed that last year african-american students received 63% of all suspensions. it is 7:33. new information shows more americans are living in downtown urban areas. 16million americans now live within two miles of a city hall. that's about 6% of the entire american population. researchers believe americans are moving into downtown areas to be closer to their job.

sheriff ross mirkarimi returns to court. he pleaded guilty to false imprisonment. he was sentenced to three years' probation and ordered to undergo a year of domestic violence counseling. next month the board is expected to vote whether he should keep his job as sheriff. in election news, mitt romney and president obama will be raising election cash. romney made stops at philadelphia and boston where fund-raisers are expected to generate a combined $8 million. president obama will keep his campaign close to washington where he has three fund-raising events. over the weekend, both candidates will take time out

the ballot here in california. federal officials broke up a cocaine ring that was moving drugs from california to colorado every month. here's some of what they confiscated and that it was trafficked from los angeles to the denver area. federal hand local agents worked together to break up the ring and they arrested ten mexican nationals who they say were in the country illegally. >> by this disrupting this ring, more than 55 pounds of cocaine are now on the streets. >> authorities say they seized guns and about $150,000 cash. they say the trucks were smuggled inside -- the drugs were smuggled inside secret comartments in vehicles. governor brown has vetoed a

good morning. welcome back to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> good morning. i'm dave clark. it's friday, september 28th. oping our news at 8:00, breaking news from san jose. crews are battling a fire in the city's willow glen neighborhood. janine de la vega has just arrived on the scene. >> reporter: we're here on mulberry lane. this is right near meridian and kurtner. this is still an active scene. there's about five or six engines still here. about 20 firefighters. the flames were shooting out of the roof when the firefighters just got here. let's take a look at video shot. just before 7:00, a neighbor called 911 to report the house next door was on fire.

when firefighters arrived, flames were shooting through the roof. the firefighters started to fight it from the outside but then they switched from going inside the home and enter it, trying to knock it down. we're told a mother and her daughter had woke unup to the sound of their smoke detectors going off and they were able to get out of the house safely. i'm joined by fire captain rob brown. what is the situation right now? >> right now we're in an overhaul phase. we had about 70% of the roof that's been burned off. we are trying to do some salvage for the occupant. get whatever belongings out that we can. >> reporter: i see the valve a shake shingle roof. did that play a part in this. >> certainly. think it's something people

a suspended -- the suspended ross mirkarimi is due back in court. he pled guilty to false ill prisonment. he was sentenced to it three years of probation and ordered to undergo a year of domestic violence counseling. next month, the board of supervisors is expected to decide if he should keep his job. 2,000 bicycle riders from around the world are expected to gather in san francisco tonight. they are marking the 20th anniversary of the critical mass movement. the big bike ride takes place on the last friday of every month with hundreds of riders filling the streets of san francisco. critical mass riders say the popularity of bike riding has really grown in the last 20 years. >> i really think we'll see bicycles flooding the streets
